Message from our Grand Knight, Tom Lanyi:

March, 2013

Brother Knights of Council 6622,

We are about to enter into another fiscal year on July 1st. This also means that we will be electing new officers for 2013-2014 fiscal year to serve the St. George Knights of Columbus Council 6622 at our June business meeting.

Why am I bringing this up now? Your council’s Trustees were charged during the February business meeting to be prepared to present a list of nominees who are at least a Third Degree Knight for all offices at our May business meeting. They will be talking to individual members about serving the council over the next couple of months.

Your council has always been extremely active in providing support to our parish, local and national charities as well as our brother knights. Your council has received statewide and national recognition for projects initiated and supported by your council. They include recognition by the Georgia Special Olympics, starting and financing a campaign to place and deliver an ultrasound machine in Kingston, Jamaica  and our current Haiti Hospital Project.

The council is always needs new leaders and new ideas to continue the works of the Knights of Columbus. I am asking all interested members to let me, the Deputy Grand Knight or one of the Trustees know that you are interested in being an officer this upcoming year so that your council will continue as a leader statewide, nationally and internationally.

Elections and additional nominations will be held during the June business meeting. It would be great to see contested elections for each officer position as well as a full gallery of our council members voting for their choice of candidate to lead your council.

Vivat Jesus

GRAND KNIGHT'S REPORT:

Brother Knights,
"What's going on in the council?"  I am asked this question frequently by brother knights from within our council and brother knights outside our council. My first thoughts are that the council has so many things going that I don't know where to start.
I know that my brothers don't have a long time for me to list the many things St George Council 6622 is involved in or planning for our brothers, their families, the St. George parish and the local community. After all, that's why we hold business meetings on the first Tuesday of the month, where all council fundraisers and activities are discussed (including a good meal and fellowship with brother knights).
Wait a second. I just remembered one other thing. We have a website. Actually, we have had a website for some time. We even have a link to the site on the St. George website. We are now putting our website to use after a couple of years of inactivity. It will contain council activities, meeting information and officer contacts. It will also include web links of interests to brother knights and their families to help keep everybody informed.
Getting back to that question that has been posed to me. The real answer to brother knights of this council should be to encourage them to attend our scheduled meetings so that they can involve themselves in an organization that they felt was worthy of their time to join. Of course, we don't expect every brother knight to be here every month. I would also tell them to invite other brother knights to attend meetings with them.
We are members of a very active council. Your family is invited to be involved in council activities and fundraisers. This year we will continue our support of the Columbian Squires Circle, Coweta County Special Olympics, the Newnan Boys and Girls Club, our parish, the clergy, fellow knights and their families and other worthy causes. None of this is possible without the support of all council members. Please consider donating any time that you can, even if it is an hour per month.
Vivat Jesus,
Tom Lanyi
