St. George Knights of Columbus Council 6622

PROJECT:  Furnish Medical Facility in LaBruyere, Haiti

Background:
A ministry from Spain built a medical facility on Church grounds in the village of LaBruyere, Haiti.  Although completed years ago, the cinder block building is still in “like new” condition.  But because of the lack of additional funding, it has never been a functioning facility.  The building is currently an empty shell, not suitable for providing the much-needed medical attention for the numerous poverty-level residents of the village.  Men, women, and children go without the routine medical care we enjoy here in America.
Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in LaBruyere is the sister parish of St. George Catholic Church in Newnan, GA and the logistics are already in place to insure the success of this project.  The furnishing of this medical facility will be a Knights of Columbus initiative and, other than coordination of the delivery of furnishings, will be completely separate from other work underway to help these people.

Objective:
Furnish the medical facility with basic hospital equipment in order for it to be opened and operated on a continuing basis.  These furnishings to include:  hospital beds, examination tables, plumbing and fixtures for 2 bathrooms, desks, chairs, and the stocking of basic drugs, medicines, and medical supplies.

Control of the project:
100 % of all donations will be used to meet the objective of this project.  There will be no overhead or administrative costs.  We will attempt to make all purchases in Haiti and we have the contacts in Port Au Prince to facilitate this.  Other than the purchase of the furnishings themselves, the only other costs may be for shipping (in containerized freight) if items must be purchased in the United States. Monthly and Cumulative Accounting for donations received will be posted weekly on the Council 6622 WebSite, with recognition and thanks given to each Council that joins us in this worthy effort.  Pictures, documenting the use of donated funds, will also be posted on the Council 6622 WebSite (http://kofc6622.blogspot.com).

 HOW YOUR COUNCIL CAN PARTICIPATE:
We need cash donations to purchase the furnishings listed above.  Council 6622 has started this funding with a $1,700 donation.  We ask each Council in the State of Georgia to prayerfully consider helping us meet our objective above.  Please know that donations in any amount will help and will be sincerely appreciated.

How participation benefits your Council:
A donation to this cause fulfills the primary principal of our Order – Charity.  In addition, if your Council is working toward achieving the Star Council award, your participation in this project will satisfy 1 of the 4 required Community activities during the current fraternal year.
